About Us

The two of us behind the blog

We grew up on the same street in Evanston, just north of Chicago, and we've taken a lot of trips together since we were kids.

This is where we write about the trips we take together, and the ones we take on our own.

I've been to more than 50 countries and I work remotely, so my next office could just as easily be a café in southern Europe as a night train across central Europe.

I like long, spontaneous trips on a budget, usually with a slightly overengineered spreadsheet of what everything really costs. I'd rather hunt for a smart route, a good deal or an unexpected stop than book a five-star hotel or a package tour.

I take pictures, find the food and usually end up talking to people along the way. I prefer the off-season, ideally when it rains and places feel more like themselves than like postcards.

I'm drawn to local markets, small restaurants and the kind of neighborhood where you stay longer than you planned. My camera is never far away, but I care just as much about the stories behind the pictures: the people, the food and the chance encounters that so often turn out to be the best part of a trip.
